Information on approval

Please read the information provided here in full before you create any print, online or other advertising materials for CITY CYCLING!

Strict copyright regulations apply for all materials and the logos are word and figurative marks protected by law. Files (including all images and logos) may not be passed on to third parties without the written consent of Climate Alliance Services. The right to use and reproduce materials and logos applies exclusively to activities to promote CITY CYCLING in the respective campaign year.

All adapted materials must be approved by Climate Alliance Services in writing.

Press releases and reports for your own intranet  do not need to be submitted for approval.

How the approval process works

1. Plan in enough time for the approval process

Allow a processing time of three working days to obtain approval. The approval process may take longer if more extensive changes are required.

2. Finalise your designs

Finish preparing your designs. Only send us print-ready, spell-checked designs in a PDF format for approval.

3. Submit your designs for approval

Email your designs to info@city-cycling.org (subject line: “Approval”). If you have a fixed deadline for printing or publishing your designs, be sure to include this in the subject line.

Conditions for approval

Logos

  • Use the latest logos provided in our download area. Note: Be sure to use the new Climate Alliance Services logo with the claim “A campaign by” from now on.
  • The logos are registered, legally protected word and figurative marks. Under no circumstances may they be distorted, changed in colour, enlarged or reduced in size. The spacing and size of the logo font and image as well as the font height must always remain in proportion. Nor may the logos be supplemented or parts removed and displayed separately.
  • Always include a version of the current CITY CYCLING logo – it is available in different colours and formats. Variations on these colours and formats are not permitted.
  • CITY CYCLING is a campaign by Climate Alliance Services, hence the Climate Alliance Services logo must always be included, together with the addition “A campaign by ...”.

Spelling of CITY CYCLING, Climate Alliance and Climate Alliance Services

  • Always write the word mark CITY CYCLING in capital letters.
  • Note the correct spelling of the company name: Climate Alliance in English (no hyphen!) and Klima-Bündnis in German (with a hyphen!). There’s a space between each of the words in “Climate Alliance Services” (no hyphens). Do not use a definite article before Climate Alliance Services (“A campaign by Climate Alliance Services”) or explicitly mention the limited liability nature of the company (GmbH).

Communication style

  • Write about “avoiding” rather than “saving” CO2.
  • CITY CYCLING is a team effort. Hence we always name teams before individual cyclists – and invite you to do the same.
  • Avoid statements such as cycling is slower than going by car, strenuous or means doing without a car. The aim is to get people on their bikes all year round  – there’s no such thing as a “cycling season”!
  • Climate Alliance Services offers countless templates. Municipalities/users must adapt these as appropriate (e.g. add the name of the municipality and the local campaign dates).
  • Do not use outdated flyer/poster layouts from previous years! The latest versions can always be found in our download area. We update the materials every year at around the start of the registration period.
  • Include your contact details on flyers and other PR materials, not those of Climate Alliance Services!
  • Be sure to indicate the copyrights for any images used. In the images we provide, the copyright is always included in the file name.

Approval of social media posts

Approval is only required for social media posts if you use our logos. In this case, a sample post is sufficient – there’s no need to submit each individual post for approval. If you use images from our image pool, indicate the copyrights (see below) either on the images themselves or in the post text.

The social media templates we provide only need to be submitted for approval if you have adapted them extensively, so done more than change the fonts and add your (municipal) logos.

Design your own resources

  • You’re welcome to create your own designs (or have designs created), for example to match your municipal branding. However, approval is also required for this!
  • Do you want to use our colour scheme for your designs? You’re very welcome to do so! We’ve provided our colour codes here.
